Description

A delicious vegan twist on the classic cheesesteak, packed with seitan, veggies, and creamy vegan cheese sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 550g thinly sliced seitan
  • 120g small green bell pepper, sliced into strips
  • 130g yellow onion, sliced
  • 1 tbsp minced garlic
  • 4 hoagie rolls, sliced ¾ of the way through
  • 12 tbsp melted vegan butter (to spread on hoagies)
  • 45 slices vegan provolone (about 60g)
  • 2 tbsp vegan butter (30g)
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour (15g)
  • ¼ cup unsweetened almond milk (or other dairy-free milk)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the homemade vegan seitan beef according to your recipe or use store-bought seitan.
  2. Sauté the onions and peppers in a large skillet over medium heat for 5-8 minutes until tender.
  3. In a small pot, melt the vegan butter, then whisk in the flour for one minute.
  4. Slowly add the almond milk, stirring until combined, and then add the vegan provolone slices until melted and creamy.
  5. Spread melted vegan butter on the insides of the hoagie rolls.
  6. Spoon sautéed veggies onto the rolls, followed by a drizzle of the cheese sauce.
  7. Optionally, broil the assembled cheesesteaks for 1-2 minutes until golden and melty.
  8. Serve and enjoy!

Notes

  • Adjust the amount of vegan butter based on your preference.
  • Broiling the cheesesteaks is optional but adds a nice texture.
